![]() As with all XBLA titles, these games will include the option for updated graphics, leaderboards, and achievements-and in the case of Rush'n Attack, online multiplayer. The titles will run you 400 Microsoft Points ($5) each when they hit on Wednesday. However, the NES version offered co-op multiplayer options, which will apparently be featured on the the Xbox Live Arcade version. The NES port was quite different from the arcade original, which featured the hunt for some POWs and a bazooka. Puns for "Russian Attack" aside, the title involves some Green Beret-style knife fights and shooting as you infiltrate a Soviet military complex looking to stop evil at any cost. ![]() Rush'n Attack is a classic action platformer that was hugely popular on the old NES. Melding air and ground assaults into one seamless package was neat at the time, and the inclusion of a small crosshair made bombing runs much easier to pull off in the heat of combat. Xevious is a really old vertical-scrolling shooter-one of the first, actually-that spawned a number of sequels and contributed to the overall progression of the vertical shoot-'em-up genre. The main difference to the original is a three-tiered shield, which protects the ship from damage and can be recharged with power-ups. While Gradius and Galaga have their fans, I'm all about the Xevious. Xevious Resurrection Xevious Arrangement Solvalou The downloadable Namco Museum Essentials is a rather slim compilation with only five Namco classics, including Xevious but Namco also snuck in a new sequel/remake. ![]() The first title is one I'm really looking forward to. Such is the case with both of this week's XBLA releases, Xevious and Rush'n Attack. TMNT, Contra, and Double Dragon were all titles that I first enjoyed in the comfort of my own home. Xevious Resurrection () was released in 2009 for the PlayStation 3 by Namco Bandai Games, being exclusive to the compilation Namco Museum Essentials.Developed by Japanese studio Cattle Call, it retrofits the classic Xevious gameplay for a modern platform, with updated visuals, gameplay, and music. Despite most of the games on the Xbox Live Arcade stemming from old arcade releases, many of my memories of these titles come from the NES versions rather than the arcade originals.
